TLC involves youth in positive and constructive activities, while also recognizing and enhancing their strengths. In TLC, we are proud to help address challenging adversities that youth face. We strive to help build self-esteem, regulate behavior, develop goals, and form positive peer and adult relationships. TLC promotes positive well-being by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and giving the support needed to build on their strengths as well as prevent risky behavior. Youth Programs are crucial to youth’s lives because they contribute beyond the extent that schools offer.

We care and help children from the shelters and rural parts of N Portland make a better summer for over 300 kids and counting each year. We have been successful for 28 years now because our youth mentors are educated, supporting, and caring leaders. We advocate education, safety,community involvement, field trips, self-esteem, arts & crafts, sports, and friendship.
Low self esteem:
Cutting out low self-esteem: According to kidshealth.org, “Self-esteem is important because feeling good about yourself can affect your mental health and how you behave. People with high self-esteem know themselves well. They're realistic and find friends that like and appreciate them for who they are. People with high self-esteem usually feel more in control of their lives and know their own strengths and weaknesses.” I love myself!
Gang violence:
Ending gang violence: According to, The National Criminal Justice reference service, "A youth gang is an organization tightly bonded or joined together and controlled by a criminal leader. A gang is often conceived and nurtured by an individual who uses it as a vehicle to raise himself or herself to a position of power among his or her peers” Based on law enforcement reports, The 2010 National Youth Gang Survey states,
There were an estimated 29,400 gangs and 756,000 gang members throughout 3,500 jurisdictions across the United States.
Gang-related homicides increased more than 10 percent from 2009 in cities with populations of more than 100,000.
Highly populated areas accounted for the vast majority of gang-related homicides nationally.
Gang members were less likely to migrate to smaller areas and had most likely migrated for social, not illegitimate, reasons." (Highlights of the 2010 National Youth Gang Survey, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, 2012).

Ending homelessness: According to the Portland homeless prevention New Avenues for Youth, “Every day there are as many as 400 homeless youth living on the streets of Portland. An estimated 1.7 million people under 18 will experience homelessness each year. There is an estimated 20,000 homeless youth in the state of Oregon. TLC-TnT is a happy home.
Dropouts:
Putting an end to dropouts: School experiences associated with dropping out include
•being held back at least two grade levels
•having low grades
•high rates of absenteeism
•frequently changed schools
•having disciplinary problems
•low engagement in school activities
•poor relationships with teachers and peers at school
•perceiving that what’s learned in school is not relevant to adult life
TLC is the ultimate SUPPORT program.
Achievement Gap:
Did you know according to the, National Collaboration of Youth, an abundance, of research provides solid evidence that youth development organizations are important agents in helping students achieve academic success. For student participants had higher grade averages and scores in reading, spelling, history, science, and social studies compared to the control group that did not participate. The study also reported that a “slightly higher percentage” of participants finished their homework. Participants in youth programs had higher grade averages compared to those who do not participate in youth programs. The motivation and concentration levels of young people were much higher in informal youth programs than while they were in school.
